CM Yogi Announces 1 Lakh Government Jobs in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the state government will provide one lakh government appointment letters to youths over the next six months, as his administration pushes to accelerate recruitment and reduce delays in government examinations.

Speaking at an appointment letter distribution programme on August 25, Adityanath said more than 9.3 lakh youths have received government jobs in Uttar Pradesh since 2017 through what he described as a transparent and non-discriminatory recruitment process.

1 Lakh Government Appointments Planned

The Chief Minister said recruitment examinations for several posts have already been completed, while the results are currently being processed.

He directed recruitment commissions and boards to shorten the time taken between examinations and the declaration of results, stressing that young candidates should not have to wait indefinitely after appearing for competitive examinations.

Adityanath said the government aims to complete recruitment within six months of receiving requisitions. Under the proposed timeline, advertisements should be issued within a month, followed by examinations and results in the subsequent months.

At the programme, appointment letters were distributed to 3,446 technical assistants and 126 market secretaries.

CM Highlights Merit-Based Recruitment

Adityanath said recruitment under his government has been conducted according to merit while following reservation provisions. He claimed that appointments were being made without discrimination, political recommendations or financial transactions.

The Chief Minister contrasted the current recruitment system with the period before 2017, alleging that recruitment processes were previously affected by corruption, delays and irregularities.

Without directly naming former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav or his uncle Shivpal Yadav, Adityanath criticised what he described as a “chacha-bhatija” system and alleged that young candidates had suffered because of recruitment irregularities.

He claimed that several recruitment cases had eventually faced legal challenges, resulting in court interventions and delays that affected candidates’ careers.

Government Targets Faster Recruitment

The Chief Minister also highlighted the administration’s efforts to reduce delays in examinations and results.

Referring to the Uttar Pradesh Board examinations, Adityanath said the examination period had been reduced substantially and that results were being declared much faster. He claimed that around 56 lakh students appear for the board examinations and that the government has worked towards conducting them in a shorter period while preventing cheating.

He also reiterated his government’s stated policy of zero tolerance towards organised cheating and what he termed the “copying mafia”.

UP’s Youth and Economic Growth

Adityanath linked government recruitment with Uttar Pradesh’s demographic dividend, arguing that employment opportunities for young people can contribute to economic growth.

He said the state, once categorised among the BIMARU states, has now emerged as one of India’s top three state economies.

The term BIMARU was coined in the 1980s to refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, which were then associated with relatively weaker development indicators.

The Chief Minister maintained that the government’s employment and development initiatives have helped increase Uttar Pradesh’s economy and per-capita income.

Focus on Transparent Government Jobs

The latest announcement comes amid continued emphasis by the Uttar Pradesh government on speeding up recruitment and improving the examination system.

Adityanath said young people should receive appointment letters on the basis of merit and without political recommendations or monetary transactions. He also urged recruitment boards and commissions to adhere to strict timelines so that candidates do not lose valuable years waiting for examination results.

With the government targeting one lakh appointments over the next six months, recruitment timelines and the completion of ongoing examination processes are likely to remain a key focus for Uttar Pradesh’s administration.
